Remember: Design catches the eye, but quality determines whether it lasts.
But how can you recognize true quality from a screen?
Start with the label.
Hermès, for example, describes its classic scarves as 100% silk, silk twill, with hand-rolled edges — but does not state the momme or fabric weight on the product page.
So what should you check next? Look beyond the product page — a brand's Instagram, or a direct email, often fills in what the listing leaves out. When even that doesn't answer everything, two other things can still tell you something about quality: where the piece was made, and who actually designed it.
Traditional silk-making and textile centres include:
A missing detail like this doesn't necessarily mean the scarf isn't worth buying. But it does tell you something about transparency — and transparency is part of quality too.
The point isn't to find a scarf with a perfect specification sheet. It's to know what you can verify, what you can't — and what you're actually paying for.
Same weighting as our Label Quality Check. Our benchmark is the Hermès scarf — 100% Mulberry Silk, 18 Momme, Silk Twill, Hand-Rolled, Screen-Printed.
